Higher education regulator AICTE has directed the management institutions offering management courses that they have to teach innovative subjects if they want to increase student intake capacity.
Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) has introduced five new MBA courses from this academic year. All the courses introduced by SPPU are based on innovative teaching techniques as directed by the All India Council of ministers Technical Education (AICTE). Higher education regulator AICTE has directed the management institutions offering management courses that they have to teach innovative subjects if they want to increase student intake capacity.
The directives have come to help the management institutions to increase their student’s intake capacity. AICTE will be changing its set of rules from the next academic year, and thus the institutions will have to accept new changes to increase capacity.
Educational institutions that have a student capacity of 120 for an MBA, can increase it to a maximum of 180. Institutions that have been rated by the AICTE can increase their capacity up to 300.
An MBA, candidate can specialize in Finance, Marketing, HR, Rural Business, Supply Chain, Health Care, Hospital Management, etc. from the second semester. But the capacity for these courses will no longer be increased. Institutions will have to propose new courses.
SPPU academic council has approved five courses with five innovative concepts. Accordingly, proposals have been submitted to AICTE by the institutes to enhance the student capacity by introducing these new courses.
The new innovative courses launched by SPPU are MBA- Service Management, MBA – Sustainable Management, MBA – Digital Marketing, MBA – FinTech, MBA- Project Management.
“AICTE has instructed institutions to launch innovative courses to increase students' capacity. The university has introduced five new MBA courses which are approved by the academic council. This increase may also occur in the future. Students will receive an MBA degree in this new program. This change has been made so that students can learn innovative concepts in the changing times”, said Dr. Parag Kalkar, Dean, Faculty of Commerce and Management.
