Telangana Covid cases: 22 Students of Kakatiya Medical College test positive

As many as 22 students of Kakatiya Medical College in Warangal, Telangana are tested positive for Covid-19 and have been sent for quarantine.

Kakatiya Medical College in Warangal, Telangana has reported nearly 22 cases of Covid-19. All infected students have been kept either under home isolation or shifted to hostel rooms.

After a few students had displayed Covid-19 symptoms, a rapid antigen test was conducted on 280 students, and 22 of them were found to be Covid-19 positive.

College principal Dr Mohan Das has said that these medical students were exposed to the Covid-19 patients during the course of their work and were getting infected. Initially, three students were found to be coronavirus positive and then other reports came as positive as reported by Deccan Chronicle.

Dr D Mohan Das said to Indian Express,  "Students were exhibiting mild symptoms. The students have returned home and are in home isolation. We have handed over medical kits to them to help in their recovery. We have informed the Directorate of Medical Education (DME) officials about the Covid positive cases and are waiting for their decision on continuation of physical classes in the college.” 

He said that meanwhile, the college staff have been cleaning the hostels by spraying sodium hypochlorite so as to keep the surroundings free from contamination.

On Sunday, Telangana reported 1673 new Covid-19 cases. The maximum number of cases which was 1,165 were reported from the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC), followed by the Medchal Malkajgiri district that reported 149 cases. Also, around 330 people recovered from the infection in the last 24 hours.
