The student in her early 20s has alleged that the assistant professor sexually harassed her instead of asking her questions related to the examination during the viva. A high level meeting is likely to held at the university in this regard.
In the alleged sexual harassment case of Triupra Central University, Tripura police on Tuesday served a notice to the accused, Bhupesh Debbarma, and asked him to appear at the police station.
Debbarma is a faculty member in the Philosophy department. He allegedly sexually harassed a student from the Sociology department during her Philosophy viva examination on Monday.
As per Indian Express report, the student fainted during the incident and rushed to Tripura Medical College and Dr. BR Ambedkar Teaching Hospital, where her oxygen levels were found to be low. She was discharged from the hospital Tuesday.
The family lodged a First Information Report (FIR) with the Amtali Police Station, accusing the Assistant Professor of sexual misconduct.
An official from Tripura University said, “Yesterday evening, the distressed girl and her friends approached me, informing me of the alleged misconduct by a teacher. We immediately informed the concerned teacher and initiated a fact-finding process. However, by the time the professor arrived, the girl fell ill and was rushed to the hospital. The Vice Chancellor has assured that strict action will be taken in accordance with the rules,” as reported by North East today.
The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) held a protest on Tuesday at the premises of Tripura University (Central), calling for prompt and stringent action against an assistant professor who stands accused of molesting a student during her viva examination on Monday.
