The National Institutes of Food Technology Entrepreneurship and Management (NIFTEM) at Kundli in Haryana and Thanjavur in Tamil Nadu has received the national importance by the Union Cabinet.
The National Institutes of Food Technology Entrepreneurship and Management (NIFTEM) at Kundli in Haryana and Thanjavur in Tamil Nadu has received the national importance by the Union Cabinet. On Wednesday i.e. February 27, 2020, the cabinet had decided to accord the status of national importance to the institute. The step has been taken to improve the professionalism and growth of the institute.
According to the source, while talking about the decision, Information and Broadcasting Minister Prakash Javadekar expressed that the step of giving national importance to the National Institutes of Food Technology Entrepreneurship and Management (NIFTEM) at Kundli in Haryana and Thanjavur in Tamil Nadu has been taken to impart professionalism will and lead to faster growth of these institutes.
Prakash Javadekar said, “We have also decided on giving institute of national importance status to two food technology institutes, one in Kundli and the other in Thanjavur. The professionalism will bring in faster growth of these institutes and improve quality.”
To reflect the decision of the Cabinet, a bill will be brought to Parliament. The initiative will bring a drastic change in the institute’s image. The Information and Broadcasting Minister further stated that the major change in the amendments proposed by the Cabinet is that the Chairman will be an expert from the field.
Established by the Ministry of Food Processing Industries of Government of India, the National Institute of Food Technology Entrepreneurship and Management or NIFTEM offers programmes like MBA, BTech, MTech, and PhD. As the Indian government formulated this academic institution as a one-stop solution for the various food sector, most of the departments in the university are food-centric.
