COVID-19: MHRD launches VidyaDaan 2.0, asks people to contribute e-learning content for students

In order to strengthen the content available online, the Ministry of Human Resource and Development launched a national program VidyaDaan 2.0 on April 22, 2020.

Thousands of students are forced to study from home due to the outbreak of the novel coronavirus. The education system is ruptured and in order to bring it back on track, academic bodies are exploring different ways. Traditional ways of teaching and learning are being rapidly augmented with online methods. In order to strengthen the content available online, the Ministry of Human Resource and Development launched a national program VidyaDaan 2.0 on April 22, 2020. The programme involves contribution of valued content from all the corners to make quality content available for the students.

Considering the lockdown period a right time and opportunity to strengthen the e-learning content for school education on DIKSHA and leverage its potential used by all students and teachers of CBSE, NCERT and 30 states/UTs which have already adopted DIKSHA, the MHRD took the step of introducing VidyaDaan 2.0 in the online education sector.

VidyaDaan 2.0: Vision and Motto

The VidyaDaan 2.0 programme aims to bring academicians and organisations together to develop fun and engaging e-learning content for the students. The programme gives freedom to people to become contributors and contribute a variety of e-learning content in the form of explanatory videos, animations, teaching videos, lesson plans, assessments and question banks in the prescribed format. The content will be first reviewed a panel of academic experts and then it will be released for use on the DIKSHA app to impart quality education to millions of students studying from home.

After the launch of the programme, the States and Union Territories can start their own programme as a part of VidyaDaan 2.0, inviting organizations, individuals, EdTech organisations, academic institutions, teachers, professors, etc. to forward and contribute their valued content to help students learn from a vast pool of knowledge. Contributors can also contribute content in regional language(s), contextualized to their regions.

The contributed content will be available for use across the education ecosystem such as government departments, education boards- national and states, schools (government and privates) and for the use of all other institutions, organisations and entities engaged in education.
