After witnessing a surge in the COVID-19 cases, the state government of Gujarat announced its decision to close the schools up to Class 9 until January 31.
Nearly 67 students from the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) in Ahmedabad have tested corona positive in the last 10 days, the institute confirmed on January 10. The update regarding the fresh novel coronavirus cases came as just like the country, Gujarat is also witnessing a surge in the COVID-19 cases along with some cases of the new highly infectious Omicron variant of COVID-19.
Meanwhile, after witnessing a surge in the COVID-19 cases, the state government of Gujarat announced its decision to close the schools up to Class 9. However, schools have received directions to continue online classes to curb academic loss. The Gujarat government announced that there will be no in-person classes at school for students from Class 1 to Class 9 until January 31, 2022.
The decision has been taken to curb the spread of coronavirus in the state, and for the protection of students. The online classes, however, will continue without any disturbance.
The state government, in its decision, further stated that coaching centers for students Class 9 upwards and those for post-graduate courses as well as competitive exams can run at 50 percent capacity. The government also urged people to follow COVID-19 protocol, wear masks, follow social distancing, avoid gatherings, in order to contain the spread of the virus in the state.
Meanwhile, according to the latest data update, Gujarat reported 6,097 COVID-19 cases so far, taking the state's tally to 8,68,301. The death toll due to COVID-19 pandemic in the state has gone up to touch 10,130.
