COVID scare: 39 more students found infected at NIT Hamirpur

With this, the number of infected students at NIT Hamirpur has increased to 81. Earlier on Wednesday, 42 students tested positive for the virus. 

Thirty-nine more students of the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Hamirpur have tested positive for COVID-19. With this, the number of infected students at NIT Hamirpur has increased to 81. Earlier on Wednesday, 42 students tested positive for the virus. 

Apart from the NIT students, 23 other people from the Hamirpur district found infected with COVID. 

Two students of Sainik School, Sujanpur Tira, and three other local students were also found positive, a district official said. This has increased the total number of active cases in the district to 152. The authorities of NIT Hamirpur have quarantined and isolated COVID patients within the premises.  

Meanwhile, 67 students at the Madras Institute of Technology, one of the four autonomous constituent colleges of Anna University, in Chromepet, Chennai, have tested positive for the COVID-19 infection. Most of the students are either asymptomatic or have mild symptoms. The institution will remain shut for seven days in view of the increasing COVID-19 cases. 

More than 50 persons, including students and a faculty member, have tested positive for COVID-19 at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Guwahati since December 31, 2021. An official of the institute said according to a government order, no student will be allowed to enter or exit the campus until further notice. IIT Kharagpur has also reported 60 COVID cases. Out of them, 40 are students and researchers.
