The decision to reopen schools and pre-University colleges depends upon the success of the graduate and postgraduate colleges that have been opened recently.

Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister C N Ashwath Narayana has said that the reopening of schools and pre-University colleges across the state will depend on the success of the graduate and postgraduate colleges that have been opened recently. He made this statement while inspecting some of the colleges that have been opened so far. He further said that though online classes are being conducted, not all the students are happy with it and many have complained about shortfalls.

He said that now that the degree and postgraduate colleges have reopened in the state, it will allow the Government to take notice of the various pros and cons related to the reopening. He added only after having studied the same the State Government can think of reopening schools. He further said that while the State Government had decided to restart physical classes for graduate and postgraduate levels, arrangements are being made for COVID tests to be done free of cost.

Higher educational institutions in Karnataka resumed regular classes following government directions to reopen degree, engineering, and diploma colleges from Tuesday, i.e. November 17, 2020, after being closed for over seven-eight months due to the COVID-19 outbreak and the lockdown.

Considering the ongoing pandemic situation, many government and government-aided degree colleges did preparation by sanitising the classrooms with the spraying of disinfectants and setting up hand sanitisers at the entrance of the college and classrooms. However, the government said that there is an option for students to either be physically present in the classroom or attend online classes. Meanwhile, the teachers, staff and students are required to produce a negative RT-PCR test report. Students also have to submit a no-objection certificate by their parents, permitting their wards to attend regular classes.
