DDMA in its last meeting held on January 27 announced the closure of the school until further notice leaving school principals and parents' associations disappointed.

Delhi School Reopening: The Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) will conduct a meeting tomorrow to analyse the COVID-19 situation in the state and discuss further relaxation. The discussion is likely to include school reopening in view of the declining cases in the state. The Delhi government had recommended the reopening of schools in the state in the last DDMA meeting. The government stated that in order to prevent further damage to the social and economic well-being of children reopening of schools has become a necessity.

Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia said that schools in the state were shut when it was not safe for children, but "excessive caution" was harming them. As the COVID-19 situation is improving in the state, the government recommenced school reopening.

On December 28, the state government ordered the closure of schools in the city again in view of the third wave of COVID-19 driven by the Omicron variant.

Earlier, a delegation of parents led by Chandrakant Lahariya, an epidemiologist and public policy specialist, met Sisodia and submitted a memorandum signed by over 1,600 parents demanding that schools be reopened. After the meeting, the Deputy CM tweeted from his official handle that he agrees with the demands of parents regarding school reopening.

DDMA in its last meeting held on January 27 announced the closure of the school until further notice. The decision left school principals and parents' associations disappointed. Expressing disappointment toward the decision, All India Parents Association (AIPA) president Ashok Agarwal called it a very sad move, and said, decision-makers have neither heart nor mind as the prolonged closures will promote and perpetuate class divide and inequality in education.
