The decision was taken considering the health and safety of children amid the poor air quality in Delhi-NCR.
According to ANI’s tweet, Rai told the news agency that as the air quality in the Capital has improved, schools, colleges and other educational institutions are not allowed to reopen.
Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal took the decision on the closure of schools for a week. Following the same, on November 14, the Haryana government announced the closure of schools in four cities -- Gurugram, Faridabad, Sonipat and Jhijar, until November 17.
In view of severely poor air quality, the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM), on November 16, suggested different measures to control air pollution in Delhi-NCR. Closure of schools and other educational institutions until further notice was a part of the measures suggested.
Following “very poor” air conditions in Delhi, the state government decided to extend the closure of schools, colleges closure beyond November 13. Meanwhile, a statement released by Additional Director of Education Rita Sharma stated that Delhi NCR received directions from the environment department to close all the schools with immediate effect until further orders of the Commission for Air Quality Management in NCR and adjoining areas.
