Students from both Pearl Academy and The Whitecliffe School of Fashion and Sustainability participated in a fashion show in New Zealand under the theme ‘No-Maad-ish’, which talks about applying a philosophy from the past to everyday life.

Pearl Academy and The Whitecliffe School of Fashion and Sustainability, New Zealand, collaborated on a cross-cultural showcase at the New Zealand High Commission. Students from both schools participated in a fashion show in New Zealand under the theme ‘No-Maad-ish’, which talks about applying a philosophy from the past to everyday life.

The goal was to appreciate and celebrate Indian crafts and tribes. Collaborating with an NGO called Kala Raksha from Bhuj, Kutch - 30 students went on a trip and stayed with the artisans for over two weeks. The larger group was distilled into groups and assigned to make each garment. The embroidery work was done collaboratively with an indigenous group and students.

Antonio Maurizio Grioli, Dean, Pearl Academy said, "At Pearl Academy, our approach to learning has always included an element of global exposure. Whether it is our students gaining exposure with global firms or students from prestigious international schools coming to India to learn more about our craft and culture. It is important for students to understand how different cultures contribute to the industry, and this type of exposure can help young professionals stand out in today's increasingly cohesive world.”

Speaking about the event, HE David Pine, New Zealand High Commission to India, said, “We are thrilled to have 15 Prime Minister’s Scholarship recipients from Whitecliffe College visit India and take this opportunity to collaborate with Pearl Academy students in fashion and sustainability. We believe such initiatives welcome diverse perspectives, develop students’ ability to think creatively and collaboratively, and widen the avenues of knowledge around different cultures.”
