200 new TV channels for underprivileged youth; Centre to invest INR 1,000 crore
While inaugurating the new computer centre and e-classroom building of the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Hamirpur, the education minister said that there will soon be one channel for each class in every language of India.
The government of India is all set to invest INR 1,000 crore in order to provide access to quality education to underprivileged youth in remote and backward areas by setting up 200 new TV channels, according to Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. While inaugurating the new computer centre and e-classroom building of the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Hamirpur, the education minister said that there will soon be one channel for each class in every language of India.
Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan also made the announcement about setting up 200 TV channel through his official Twitter account.
The tweet read, “GoI is investing over 1,000 crores to create 200 new TV channels for ensuring access to quality education for underprivileged youth in remote and backward areas. Soon we will have one channel for every class in every language of India.”
NIT Hamirpur encouraged to prepare content for new channels
Stating that these 200 new channels would require quality content, Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan encouraged NITH to think in this direction.
He tweeted, “These 200+ TV channels will require innovative and quality content. @NITHamirpurHP should think in this direction and create innovative audio-visual-gaming based content for students of both basic and advanced courses.”
The union education minister said that Himachal Pradesh is a ‘Devbhoomi’ and ‘Veerbhoomi’ However, now it is time to focus on making it a ‘Gyan-bhoomi’.
He stated, "Himachal Pradesh is a civilizational center point. It is a “Devbhoomi” & also a “Veerbhoomi”. Now we have to focus on making it a ‘Gyan-bhoomi’.”
“We have to create citizens who are sensitive, responsible & contribute in preserving the ancient heritage and knowledge of the land,” Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan added.
