5 booked for ragging juniors at RGUKT

A case was registered against the five senior students under Sections 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), and 506 (criminal intimidation) of IPC and under relevant provisions of the Telangana Prohibition of Ragging Act.

Five students of Rajiv Gandhi University of Knowledge Technologies (RGUKT), also known as Indraprastha Institute of Information Technology (IIIT Basar, in Nirmal district of Telangana have been booked for allegedly ragging three junior students at the institute. 

As per reports, a police official said the five students of Pre University Course-II allegedly beat up the three students of Pre University Course-I and also threatened them of dire consequences for not respecting seniors. Based on a complaint lodged by the Assistant Student Welfare Dean, a case was registered against the five senior students under Sections 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), and 506 (criminal intimidation) of Indian Penal Code (IPC) and under relevant provisions of the Telangana Prohibition of Ragging Act, the official said adding no one has been taken into custody.  

A state run-college in Odisha has also expelled 12 students allegedly involved in ragging a girl student from the institute. The police have arrested five students, including two teenagers (Plus II) and three adult Plus III (second year) students, for being allegedly involved in the ragging incident, a police officer said.  

In yet another incident of ragging in a medical college, seven MBBS students had pushed nearly 40 juniors on the hostel terrace to strip in biting cold at Srinagar Medical College in Uttarakhand on November 11. The principal Dr CMS Rawat has suspended the seven students of the 2019-20 MBBS batch for the next three months for their involvement in the incident. They will now be barred from all academic sessions for this period.
