Abhay Jere has been appointed as the new Vice Chairman of the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE). He was earlier holding the charge of Chief Innovation Officer (CIO) at the Ministry of Education, Government of India. Before Jere, Prof MP Poonia was serving as AICTE Vice Chairman. Abhay Jere has been appointed as the AICTE Vice Chairman for a period of three years.

The AICTE took to Twitter to congratulate Abhay Jere. It wrote, “We congratulate @abhayjere for being appointed as the new VC for #AICTE. He was holding the responsibility as the Chief Innovation Officer of the country & has done work in Innovation sector. @SITHARAMtg, Chairman, #AICTE welcome & wished him all the best in his new assignment.”

Prof TG Sitharam assumed the charge as the Chairman of All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) in December last year. He took over charge from Prof M Jagadesh Kumar, Chairperson, University Grants Commission, who had the additional charge of AICTE since September 2022.

To improve admissions in core engineering courses, including civil, mechanical and electronics, the AICTE will now allow students pursuing these programmes flexibility to also pursue a minor degree in any emerging area, AICTE chairperson TG Sitharam said. “We want to provide greater flexibility to students by throwing open all minor courses for all engineering disciplines, so that a civil engineering student can minor in information and technology and become job ready,” Sitharam said.
