AICTE has introduced the NHEQF to ensure that the student is employable on exiting their education

AICTE introduces the Unified Credit Framework National Higher Equation Qualification Framework

The All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) has introduced the Unified Credit Framework National Higher Equation Qualification Framework (NHEQF)/National Skill Qualification Framework (NSeF) for implementation in all the AICTE approved Technical universities/Institutions. The initiative has been introduced in lines with the goal of the National Education Policy, NEP-2020. The All India Council for Technical Education is a national-level body for technical education, under the Department of Higher Education.

NHEQF introduced to ensure employability if students during exit

According to the official statement released by the council, AICTE has introduced the NHEQF in motion to ensure that the students pursuing technical courses are employable on exiting their education. It also ensures that the Higher Educational Institutions have clarity of a student’s educational progression every time a student wishes to pick up their studies from where they left.

After the completion of the 12th standard, a student will receive 4 credits. On completion of a four-year under-graduation program, a student will receive 6 credits and after a PhD, 8 credits will be awarded to the students.

The further breakup of Unified Credit Levels for Engineering and Technology Education can be found in the circular released by the AICTE.

“At each entry the institution/University has to identify the educational gaps/skill gaps and suitable bridge courses may be offered. To make the students employable after every exit, the skill component with progressive enhancement in skill in respective disciplines may be introduced in the curriculum right from the 1st year of the program by the concerned regulatory body/University/Technical Board, as the case may be.
