AICTE launches diploma, UG engg books in Marathi

The All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) has launched books written in Marathi language for diploma and undergraduate engineering courses. 

Union Minister of State for Education Subhas Sarkar and Minister for Higher and Technical Education, Maharashtra, Chandrakant Patil, launched the books at Mumbai University. Sarkar said the initiative is in line with the AICTE’s philosophy of imparting technical education in Indian languages by introducing books in 12 local languages — Hindi, Marathi, Telegu, Odia, Punjabi, Bengali, Tamil, Gujarati, Kannada, Urdu, Malayalam and Assamese. 

He said the initiative will lead to enhanced learning outcomes and strengthen innovation and research. “Giving priority to local languages in the National Education Policy (NEP) manifests our commitment to all regional languages. We consider Indian languages the soul of ‘Bharatiyata’ (Indianness) and the link to a better future,” Sarkar said and added that technically advanced countries such as France, Germany and South Korea have displayed one can achieve global education standards in mother tongues. 

20 engg books in Odia language 

President of India Droupadi Murmu had on November 11 launched 20 engineering books that have been translated into Odia for BTech and diploma engineering courses in Bhubaneswar. Apart from that, Besides, she also launched glossary of technical terms developed by the Commission for Scientific and Technical Terminology (CSTT) in Odia language. The translated books are available on portal called e-KUMBH.  

The technical education department had signed an agreement with the Institute of Odia Studies and Research to translate the books for the first-year students (nine for degree and 11 for diploma) in Odia language for the 2022-23 academic year. The translation work began in November 2021. AS many as 64 language experts, translators and reviewers translated the first-year engineering books into Odia.
