Another IIT Bombay Prof to head IIT Delhi; Rangan Banerjee to succeed Ramgopal Rao
Directors of three more IITs have been appointed, Prof V.Kamakoti has been appointed as the Director of IIT Madras.
Indian Institute of Technology Bombay professor Rangan Banerjee has been appointed as the next director of IIT-Delhi. Prof Banerjee will succeed Prof Ramgopal Rao who completed his term last year.
Rangan Banerjee is currently serving at the Department of Energy Sciences & Engineering, IIT Bombay. Sharing the news through his Twitter handle, Ramgopal Rao wrote: “I am happy to inform you that Prof. Rangan Banerjee from the Department of Energy Sciences & Engineering, IIT Bombay has been appointed as the next Director of IIT Delhi. Hearty congratulations and best wishes to Prof. Banerjee.”
Directors of three more IITs were appointed yesterday, Prof V.Kamakoti has been appointed as the Director of IIT Madras. IIT Mandi and IIT Indore have also got new directors.
Prof Banerjee, a Forbes Marshall Chair Professor at IIT Bombay has been associated with the IITs for nearly three decades. He started his academic career as an assistant professor at the Indira Gandhi Institute of Development Research, Mumbai in 1992 before joining IIT-Bombay in 1993 as guest faculty. He joined as an assistant professor in 1997 and as a professor in 2003.
Banerjee was instrumental in starting the Department of Energy Science and Engineering at IIT-Bombay in 2007 and his interest areas include energy management, modelling of energy systems, energy planning and policy, hydrogen energy and fuel cells.
