The fingerprint would be matched by the help of sensor with the already stored pattern and would let the engine ignite only if the fingerprint matches.

Khushwinder Pal Singh and Vikramjit Singh, final year automobile engineer students of Chandigarh University have innovated a solution to ensure the safety of two-wheelers. They have developed a biometric fingerprint two wheeler security kit that could be installed on any two-wheeler scooter or bike that will be directly linked with the ignition point of the vehicle. A two-wheeler with the system can only be unlocked with the owner swiping his or her finger on the biometric machine installed on the handle of the vehicle and until that the engine would be immobilised. The fingerprint would be matched by means of the sensor with the already stored pattern and would let the engine ignite only if the fingerprint matches.

As per the data available from the police department of several states, motor vehicle theft cases are the least solved crimes. The device may prove to be quite helpful for citizens.

Khushwinder was the brainchild behind the idea and later on, was joined by Vikramjit. They showcased their idea at Chandigarh University Technology Business Incubator. They presented their project to a committee of experts who passed the project and sanctioned funds to carry out the research.

The first prototype of the system was out after eight months. The students have filed a patent with Intellectual Property India. They are already being approached by many automobile companies for the commercial use of the device in their two-wheelers.  In the beginning, the cost of the security kit was around Rs 22, 000 but after further research, the duos could bring it down to Rs 4,000.
