From 51.7 per cent in 2014 to a steady, sustained rise at 57.09 per cent in 2019, the employability of a B.E. degree has continued to be much far greater than that of other courses.

According to the AICTE survey, Bachelor of Engineering (B.E.) programme creates the highest number of employable talents in the country. From 51.7 per cent in 2014 to a stable, constant rise at 57.09 per cent in 2019, the employability of a B.E. degree has continued to be much far greater than that of other courses. Adherence to AICTE norms ensures that all colleges under the aegis of University of Mumbai offering the Bachelor of Engineering course meet the specified standards. Apart from this, the career opportunities available on completion of the B.E course are quite noteworthy as well with enviable starting salaries.

For example, a Mumbai University B.E. student was recruited by Google at Rs 1.2 crore per year after the company found him on a website that organises online programming challenges. Last year, four B.E. students from Vidyalankar Institute of Technology (VIT), Wadala, were hired in a Japanese firm, which offered them a package of Rs. 35 lakh. A large number of VIT students have been hired by famous brands such as Axis Bank, NUCsoft, Zeus Learning, Capgemini, Reliance Retail, Reliance Jio, Wipro, TCS Digital, TCS Ninja, L&T Infotech, General Electric, Ugam Solutions, and Atos Syntel.

Regardless of all this, some parents are seen to be cautious. This is why parents need to refocus on the actualities in place of being swept away by unsupported reports spread due to vested interests. In the present scenario, engineers can work in industries including automobiles, construction, transport, cosmetics, medicine, food, fashion, IT (AI/Data Science), Electronics (IoT, Machine Learning), healthcare, and much more. There are a number of opportunities in the private sector as well as public sector undertakings.
