Don't force students to pay fees amid lockdown: AICTE to deemed universities, institutions
AICTE has requested all the deemed universities and standalone institutions one more time to not force students to pay their fees during the lockdown period.
All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) has again requested all the deemed universities and standalone institutions to not force students to pay their fees during the lockdown period. The Council has also urged the institutions and stakeholders to come forward to help the country in its fight against COVID-19.
The Council has released a circular in this regard that read, “All standalone institutions and deemed universities are once again requested not to force students for fee remittance till the situation becomes normal after the opening of the lockdown. The present situation has triggered a deep economic crisis and has impacted all strata of society. The Council hope that all institutions will appreciate the advice of AICTE and will act accordingly."
AICTE had earlier also in April requested the deemed universities and standalone institutions to not force for fee payment from students. In April AICTE had issued strict guidelines to all the educational institutes and colleges demanding fees that include admission fees from parents during the lockdown. The Council has directed these institutions not to insist on payment of fees till the ongoing lockdown is lifted and normalcy is restored.
The Council had also stressed on the fact that the institutes must not delay the salaries of their staff members and faculty during the lockdown period. The guidelines came after some institutes reported that they are not paying salaries to their faculty and staff members, started making rounds on the internet. Many institutes also terminated their employees. However, the Council also directed not to terminate anyone after which all such termination were withdrawn.
