Engineering curriculum to undergo drastic change: VTU VC
Students will no longer be restricted to any one stream or subject, said S Vidyashankar at the sixth graduation day of Karnataka Law Society’s Gogte Institute of Technology.
Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU) will revamp engineering curriculum from the coming academic year, VTU Vice-Chancellor S Vidyashankar said. He was speaking at the sixth graduation day of Karnataka Law Society’s Gogte Institute of Technology. He said the engineering curriculum will undergo a drastic change to enable students to study the subjects of their interest.
Urging students to keep pace with the changing trend in engineering technology, Vidyashankar said the new phase of life which the students will start after their graduation will pose newer challenges and they should learn to accept them and brighten their career. He said the rising number of girl graduates is a symbol of the country’s growth.
“Students will no longer be restricted to any one stream or subject. They will be given a large spectrum of subjects to learn from. They will be trained to become entrepreneurs and team leaders, apart from the skills needed to land good jobs,’‘ he said. “The classes in future will include a larger portion of online classes, apart from the traditional classroom.”
Vidyashankar was recently appointed as the new Vice-Chancellor of VTU. He has been appointed as the Vice-Chancellor for three years from the date of assuming charge. He had earlier served as Vice-Chancellor of the Karnataka State Open University (KSOU), Mysuru. He has also served as professor of mechanical engineering in Bangalore Institute of Technology before his appointment as KSOU Vice-Chancellor.
