Engineering student skips exam, hangs self to death in Ahmedabad

According to Gujarat University police officials, the boy hanged himself before 2 pm and did not appear for the exam that began on March 3, 2023.  

A 17-year-old student of LD Engineering College in Ahmedabad allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself from a ceiling fan in his hostel room. 

Exam stress is suspected to be the reason for suicide. The police said the boy, a first-year student, has been identified as Divyesh Ghoghari. He was a resident of Surat and was studying textile engineering at the college. 

According to Gujarat University police officials, the boy hanged himself before 2 pm and did not appear for the exam that began from March 3, 2023. The college authorities said the deceased had accompanied his friends to the examination hall, but later changed his mind to not appear for the exam. “Later, it came to our notice he had not even filled the exam form,” they said.  

The body has been be sent for the post-mortem examination. The police have sent the cellphone of the deceased to the Forensic Science Laboratory for further investigation. No suicide note has been recovered from the crime scene. Gujarat University police have registered a case of accidental death and initiated investigation.
