IIEST Shibpur postpones mid-term exam over incomplete syllabus
An official of the institute said the syllabus could not be finished due to absence of teachers.
The Indian Institute of Engineering Science and Technology (IIEST) Shibpur has postponed the mid-term exam of a mining engineering subject a day before the test because the syllabus could not be finished due to absence of teachers, an official of the institute said. As per a report published in The Telegraph, a notice signed by Nirmalya Bhattacharya, deputy registrar (academic), IIEST Shibpur, said the MTech first-semester exam on “Mine System Analysis and Design” had been rescheduled at Wednesday’s emergency senate meeting.
A professor of the department said they had written to the authorities several times for recruiting a guest faculty since April after the teacher who took classes on this specialised subject retired, but the authorities delayed in making the recruitment due to which the syllabus could not be completed, the teacher alleged.
He said they had demanded to recruit a guest faculty as appointing a full-time teacher for the subject would have taken more time. A member of the IIEST students’ senate said if the classes for the semester began from September 2, why the authorities could not hire a faculty to complete the remaining syllabus. However, the deputy registrar refused to comment on the allegation raised by teachers and students.
Allow offline classes, exams from January 2022: students
Students of the institute had recently written to the institute director, requesting him to start offline classes and exams from January 2022. The senate that represents all students on the campus said they wanted the campus to be reopened for at least BTech third-year and fourth-year students.
