IIIT Dharwad likely to be inaugurated in April
Offline classes for 400 students at IIIT Dharwad to begin on March 15, others will join by mid-April, the institute Director said.
Pralhad Joshi, Union Minister for Parliamentary Affairs, Coal and Mines, said the Indian Institute of Information Technology (IIIT) in Dharwad is likely to be inaugurated in April this year and if possible, the permanent campus of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Dharwad will also be inaugurated on the same occasion.
Speaking to the media after visiting IIIT Dharwad campus, Joshi said Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone of both institutes and efforts will be made to invite the Prime Minister and Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan to the programme.
Joshi said the IIIT Dharwad campus has been built at a cost of INR 114 crore in an area of 60 acres. The total built-up area on campus is 41,800 square metre comprising the administration block, academic block, health and fitness block, director’s residence and boys’ hostel with a capacity of 600 students.
He said the girls’ hostel, which has been funded by Infosys Foundation, can accommodate 300 students. “The campus is equipped with all modern amenities, including air-conditioned laboratories, naturally ventilated classrooms, indoor and outdoor WiFi network, underground electrical trenches and smart street lighting. The institution also houses a mega incubation centre to facilitate start-ups,” Joshi said.
