IIIT Hyderabad, Baahubali makers launch Media-Tech Accelerator

The accelerator will support Indian innovators and startups in creating new technology-driven solutions for the media and entertainment sector, says co-founder of Arka Media Works. 

The Centre for Innovation and Entrepreneurship (CIE) at the Indraprastha Institute of Information Technology (IIIT) Hyderabad and Arka Media Works, the makers of the movie Baahubali, have launched Media-Tech Accelerator. The accelerator programmes are designed to discover, nurture and scale start-ups developing innovative solutions and artificial intelligence (AI) applications in areas of virtual production, Web 3.0 (Blockchain, Metaverse), media and journalism. 

“This accelerator will support Indian innovators and startups in creating new technology-driven solutions for the media and entertainment sector,” said Shobu Yarlagadda, co-founder and chief executive officer at Arka Media Works. The programmes help startups to leverage cutting-edge research work at IIIT Hyderbad, provide domain mentoring, market access, seed fund and customer connections to help startups achieve their respective goals in the programme time span.  

Cohorts will be led by key mentors, including Ramesh Loganathan, head of CIE, IIIT Hyderabad, and Shobu Yarlagadda as chief Mentors. The initiative is supported by the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India. 

“Research in AI and other emerging technologies have made great strides making many challenging MediaTech solutions possible,” Ramesh Loganathan said in a statement. “Using computer vision AI for editing, using language technologies for evaluating scripts and using speech technologies for realistic dubbing are some of the new technologies that can change the way content is created,” he added.
