The International Institute of Information Technology Hyderabad (IIITH), in collaboration with the National Academy of Medical Sciences (NAMS) and IHub-Data, has launched a 12-week online course titled 'AI for Medical Professionals'. This initiative, supported by the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, aims to equip healthcare practitioners with the skills to understand, assess, and apply AI technologies in clinical settings, enhancing both patient care and operational efficiency.
The course offers a comprehensive curriculum covering foundational AI, machine learning, and deep learning concepts, supplemented by case studies on clinical applications such as screening, diagnosis, prognosis, and patient management. It also addresses important ethical and governance concerns in the use of AI tools. Participants will engage through video lectures, weekly interactive sessions, and practical assignments, culminating in a certification upon successful completion.
The program has attracted 200 medical professionals, including senior faculty and researchers from leading medical institutions across 41 specialities, spanning 24 states and 56 cities in India. Esteemed mentors from IIITH and NAMS are guiding the course, ensuring a high-quality learning experience for all participants.
Speaking at the virtual inauguration, Prof. P J Narayanan, Director of IIIT Hyderabad, said, "IIITH is proud to partner with NAMS on this initiative. As the top ranking institute in AI research in India, we feel it's imperative to share our expertise in making AI more accessible to the medical fraternity, not only to provide useful and rare AI insights to medical professionals, to enhance their judgments and diagnosis, but also in modern drug discovery."
Prof. Shiv Kumar Sarin, President of NAMS, said, "This AI course will enable medical professionals to understand and use transformative technologies like AI in diagnosis and treatment of patients. Medicine is both an art and science, the competencies of doctors and engineers can be pooled to develop AI supported solutions in medicine. I am sure over a period of time, such a program will become an integral part of the medical curriculum, and medical students will be able to understand and use AI technologies in healthcare."

The specialisations offered under the M.Tech programme at IIIT Hyderabad include Computer Science and Engineering (CSE), Product Design and Management (PDM), Computer Science and Information Security (CSIS) and Computer-Aided Structural Engineering (CASE). Admission to all these courses is subject to a valid score in the PGEE exam conducted by the institute. For M.Tech in Product Design and Management (PDM), however, students can also have a valid score in GATE/ CEED or PGEE to secure admission. Hence, students who meet with the minimum eligibility requirements set by IIIT are required to appear for this exam and those who qualify the same are offered admissio to this institute.
