The student intake for computer science and engineering (CSE) and electronics and communication engineering (ECE) courses has been increased to 150 for first year, from the usual 100.

The Indian Institute of Information Technology (IIT) Trichy has increased its student intake for two BTech programmes for the 2022-23 academic year.  As per a report published in The Hindu, the student intake for computer science and engineering (CSE) and electronics and communication engineering (ECE) has been increased to 150 for first year, from the usual 100.

25 seats for girl students

Apart from this, the institute has also introduced exclusive quota of 25 seats for girls in each programme. Seetharaman, Chairman-Admissions, said this year, there will be 75 students each in the first year for ECE and CSE programmes. The classes for first year will begin on November 14. With the new intake, the overall strength of undergradaute students on the campus will go up to 350, he said.

The institute had to keep the admissions at just 30 for each of the two programmes due to lack of proper building infrastructure. There are now only 60 students for both programmes in the third year and the number is the same for the final year.

The institution started functioning from the permanent campus at Sethurappatti from June 14, 2021. Before that, it was working from the temporary campus within the premises of Oxford Engineering College campus, Trichy.
