IIT Bhubaneswar: First-year BTech students start reporting to campus

Classes will begin in the online mode from November 26, followed by hybrid mode, said Dean (Academic Affairs). 

IIT Bhubaneswar has started admitting first-year BTech and dual degree students for the 2021-22 academic session. A total of 472 students have been offered admission to the institute. Of them, 90 (20 per cent) are women and 139 (29 per cent) are under 18. 

A total of 226 students (182 boys and 44 girls) reported at the institute till November 22. The institute has given the students the option of staying at home and take the education online for those under 18 years. Only 20 (4 per cent) of students have opted to stay at home, whereas around 7 and 15 students have requested for extension of time due to health and other reasons such as natural calamity, etc. The rest of the students are expected to arrive on the campus by today (November 24).  

Orientation programme to be held tomomrrow 

Orientation programme of the newly inducted first semester BTech and dual degree students will be organised on November 25 at Community Centre, IIT Bhubaneswar, from 11 am to 12:40 pm under the chairmanship of RV Rajakumar, Director, IIT Bhubaneswar.  

The Director said, “Majority of those under 18 who are yet to be vaccinated have chosen to join the campus hostels for education with physical presence. At the moment, all except for the third-year BTech students are on the campus and a majority of them have classes running with their physical presence.” 

RT-PCR negative report mandatory to join campus 

Those who want to join the campus have to carry a negative RT-PCR report with the test taken within the last 72 hours before reporting to the campus. The students will have to undergo 10 days of quarantine in the newly built Rushikulya Hall of Residence and the Subarnarekha Hall of Residence.  

“Classes of the freshers will begin on November 26, first through online mode for a few weeks, followed by hybrid mode,” said PR Sahu, Dean (Academic Affairs).
