IIT Delhi UAE campus will soon be a reality

The institute is coming up with a new curriculum in 2023, which will take into account the demands of its proposed overseas campuses. 

United Arab Emirates' capital Abu Dhabi will soon be home to one of India’s most prestigious universities – the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi. As per Arabian Business, “The institute is coming up with a new curriculum in 2023,” IIT Delhi stated. The new curriculum will take into account the demands of its proposed overseas campuses. Apart from the UAE, offshore campuses of IIT are being planned in Sri Lanka, Nepal, Tanzania and Malaysia. 

IIT Delhi is considered as one of the best institutes for training, research and science in the country, and holds the 54th rank globally in engineering and technology studies, as seen in the 2021 QS World University Rankings. 

“A high-level team from IIT Delhi visited Abu Dhabi recently to have extensive discussions with officials of the Abu Dhabi Department of Education and Knowledge (ADEK) and other stakeholders in the project,” Subhas Sarkar, the Minister of State for Education, informed the Lok Sabha. 

IIT Delhi is one among the 23 other IITs operating in India. Students can apply for undergraduate, postgraduate and doctorate-level programmes. As part of the India-UAE trade deal signed on February 18, 2022, India announced to set up the first IIT in the UAE. Since then, the two sides have been in contact to come up with measures to follow up on the proposal.
