IIT Directors support the decision of conducting JEE Main and NEET exams in September
With the decision of conducting of JEE Main and NEET exams as per scheduled dates, many have put forwarded their opinions. Some have come in support with the decision of not postponing the exams any further while others are raising their voices and protesting to postpone JEE Main and NEET examinations in September. Many students have demanded through tweets and posts to the Ministry for postponement of JEE and NEET exams over safety and health concerns. On the contrary, NTA and Ministry of Education have announced that there will be no further postponement of the exams after the decision of the Supreme Court and ensures all measures are being taken for COVID-19 safety.
Supporting the decision of the authorities, IIT Directors through tweets have come forward and urged students to have full faith in the conducting authorities. Until now, IIT Delhi Director, IIT Kharagpur, IIT Ropar and IIT Roorkee Directors have extended their support to conduct JEE Main and NEET exam in September.
Virendra K Tewari, IIT Kharagpur, hares his best wishes for students who are willing to appear for the examinations. He also urges the students to have faith in the authority and focus on preparing for the upcoming examinations.
He said “ It could be misused as a precedent to dilute the entire admission process to the IIT system which may prove to be harmful to the quality of undergraduate education at the IITs. I urge the aspirants to take it up as a challenge and show their mettle and sincerity to the world.”
IIT Roorkee Director, Prof. Ajit K Chaturvedi said, "The JEE exams should be held as per their schedule in September 2020. We should not let this be a zero academic year as it might have consequences on the bright future of several students. Students and their parents need to have faith in the system."
He further added “The decision to conduct these exams has been taken after considering every aspect of the current situation. The government has been ensuring that all necessary arrangements are made to safeguard the health and safety of the students. Delaying the exams would have a cascading effect so we should come together in understanding its importance and support the system in conducting it seamlessly”.
IIT Ropar Director, Prof. Sarit K Das said via tweet, “Delay in holding NEET and JEE Main exams will have serious repercussions as it not only affect the academic calendar but also career of bright students”.
Earlier IIT Delhi Director, V.Ramgopal Rao came in support saying, “Let's be mentally and physically prepared. Resilience and self-discipline are required in abundant measure.”
On September 27th, NTA and Education Minister, Dr Ramesh Pokhriyal has shared via tweet and press release the statistics of students who have already downloaded their admit cards. Over 14 lakh candidates have already downloaded their respective exam admit cards from the official website.
NTA has also ensured that more than 99% of candidates have been allotted their first preference exam centre.
NTA Director Vineet Joshi has said that NTA has laid out the many precautions that have been put in place. He also said that complete advisory to be followed by students and examination staff have been issued online.
On the other hand, students continue demanding for postponement of JEE Main and NEET exam using various social media platforms. Over 1 lakh sign online petition to postpone NEET, JEE Main 2020 exams. This online petition was started on change.org to postpone JEE and NEET 2020 examinations.
JEE Main 2020 admit card has been released online on August 17, 2020. Candidates can download their admit cards by entering application number and date of birth on the login window.
