IIT Guwahati Celebrates Silver Jubilee Reunion for Inaugural Class of 1995-1999
The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Guwahati celebrated the Silver Jubilee Reunion of its inaugural batch (Class of 1995 - 1999). This event, organised by the Alumni and External Relations office, welcomed over 25 alumni from around the world who returned to their alma mater for a memorable three-day gathering.
The class of 1995 - 1999 holds a unique place in the history of IIT Guwahati, as they were the first to receive BTech. degrees at the Institute's inaugural convocation in 1999. These alumni started their journey at a temporary IIT Guwahati setup within the Institute of Engineers Building and experienced the transition to the current expansive campus on the northern banks of the Brahmaputra.
The alumni were welcomed by Prof. Devendra Jalihal, Director, IIT Guwahati, at an Open House event held at the Institute. The three-day reunion included engaging sessions where alumni and the Institute administration explored ways to enhance student training, and establish state-of-the-art facilities. Numerous alumni committed to supporting new scientific and technological innovations by funding undergraduate projects and mentoring students.
Speaking about hosting the alumni of IIT Guwahati, Prof. Devendra Jalihal, said, “It is an honor to host our pioneering batch of alumni and celebrate their remarkable achievements and contributions. Their success stories serve as a testament to the strong foundation laid here at IIT Guwahati. The legacy they have built over the past 25 years is truly inspiring and demonstrates the impact of the education and values instilled during their time here. Their accomplishments across various industries and countries underscore the global reach and influence of our institution.”
During the event, Mr. Rajeev Dwivedi, Alumnus, Class of 1999, IIT Guwahati, remarked, "IIT Guwahati was where I first truly understood what it means to be an engineer. The institute offered a wealth of opportunities that greatly contributed to my growth and learning. The guidance and support from the faculty were invaluable. Today, as a Mechanical Engineer and Subject Matter Expert in Automation Robotics at Amazon Robotics, I have been fortunate to make significant contributions in robotics and to integrate my innovations into various products. Reflecting on the profound impact of my education at IIT Guwahati, I am deeply grateful for the personal and professional development it has enabled."
The JoSAA 2024 registration process started on June 10, 2024. There will be five rounds of JoSAA counselling. JoSAA released Rounds 1 and 2 seat allocation results and cutoffs. Knowledge of JoSAA dates 2024 helps candidates keep a check on the major deadlines, like the last date of registration. It is best to regularly check the official JoSAA website for the latest updates and announcements regarding the 2024 counselling schedule. Additionally, the candidates must keep visiting this space for the latest updates related to JoSAA counselling.
The syllabus of UCEED is meant to help the candidate identify which topics are important and which topics arent. Also, questions in the exam will be asked from the topics mentioned in the syllabus. So, instead of wandering aimlessly, with the syllabus in hand, the candidate will be able to know which direction they need to move. To prepare for the exam, the candidate must also consult the exam pattern, which has details like the weightage carried by various sections, marking scheme, test duration, types of questions asked, etc.
A highlight of the reunion was the announcement of the Gurudakshina program by Prof. Devendra Jalihal. This initiative encourages alumni and students to give back to their alma mater by pledging a portion of their salary or business profits to the Institute.
The reunion featured a hybrid meeting with the institute's first Director, Prof. Dhirendranath Buragohain, along with other pioneering faculty members such as Prof. Gautam Barua, Prof. Meenaxi Borkotoky, and Prof. Anil D. Sahasrabudhe. They participated both in person and online to share memories of the Institute's early days.
