The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Indore has inaugurated AgriHub, a Center of Excellence (CoE) focused on sustainable agriculture by leveraging Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning (ML), and Deep Learning (DL). This transdisciplinary, multi-institutional initiative aims to drive innovation and revolutionize Indian agriculture. AgriHub will empower researchers, breeders, and farmers by serving as a collaborative platform, uniting stakeholders from various sectors to create innovative solutions for the agricultural landscape in India.

By promoting coordination and synergy, AgriHub will optimize the use of resources and expertise, ensuring that technological advancements meet the needs of farmers, NGOs, and other key stakeholders. This approach aims to tackle critical agricultural challenges such as drought, floods, and low productivity, ultimately reducing losses. Key deliverables of AgriHub include startup incubation, job creation, patents, publications, industry collaborations, student mentorship, and entrepreneurship workshops. Over the next five years, AgriHub aims to build a self-sustaining ecosystem, ensuring long-term financial and operational sustainability beyond the initial funding phase.

During the launch of ‘AgriHub: A Deep Learning & AI/ML Center of Excellence,’ S. Krishan, Secretary of the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), Government of India, highlighted the transformative potential of AI, high-performance computing, and big data in revolutionizing agriculture. He underscored the pivotal role of startups in driving innovation and called for collaboration with established industries to integrate modern technologies for improved agricultural yields and profitability. Additionally, he emphasized the urgency of rapidly adapting to technological advancements.

IAS officer Sanjay Dubey, Additional Chief Secretary of Science and Technology for Madhya Pradesh, emphasized the significance of the project in addressing agricultural challenges through technology. He reiterated the government’s commitment to supporting such initiatives as a key stakeholder. Highlighting the strategic importance of the chosen location for the Center of Excellence (CoE), he noted that Madhya Pradesh is at the forefront of advancing agricultural technologies.
