Opportunities for NRIs increased

The decision has increased opportunities for NRIs and foreign students from these countries to appear for the IIT-JEE exam. Qualifying for this exam will help them enrol in India’s top technical institutions under the Direct Admission of Student Abroad (DASA) scheme.

Government mulls to set up IIT, NIT campuses abroad

IITs are excluded from DASA, hence, the government is in the process of setting up IIT campuses abroad. The initiative also includes the setting up of the National Institutes of Technology, National Institutes of Information Technology, School of Planning and Architecture and other technical institutions that are funded by the Central government.

The academics view it as increased competition for Indian students since overseas students will register for the exam.
