IIT JEE main to be conducted in 25 foreign countries; Govt. to set up campuses overseas
The decision has increased opportunities for NRIs and foreign students from these countries to appear for the IIT-JEE exam.
IIT JEE Entrance Exam: In order to conduct IIT-JEE Entrance Exam in more countries, the government has decided to increase the number from 12 to 25. The list of countries to conduct the IIT-JEE Entrance Exam has some new names such as the United States of America, Australia, South Africa, Singapore, China, Nepal, Indonesia, Malaysia, Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates and Vietnam among others.
Opportunities for NRIs increased
The decision has increased opportunities for NRIs and foreign students from these countries to appear for the IIT-JEE exam. Qualifying for this exam will help them enrol in India’s top technical institutions under the Direct Admission of Student Abroad (DASA) scheme.
Government mulls to set up IIT, NIT campuses abroad
IITs are excluded from DASA, hence, the government is in the process of setting up IIT campuses abroad. The initiative also includes the setting up of the National Institutes of Technology, National Institutes of Information Technology, School of Planning and Architecture and other technical institutions that are funded by the Central government.
The academics view it as increased competition for Indian students since overseas students will register for the exam.
DU Btech admissions through JEE
Following the footsteps of Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), Delhi University (DU) is all set to introduce BTech courses. However, the varsity is yet to get approval from the Union ministry of education for introducing BTech courses. As the approval is yet to be received, the varsity has not released any official notification regarding DU BTech Admissions. Three engineering courses: BTech in computer science, electronics and communication and electrical engineering were cleared by DU’s statutory body in December 2021. Just like other engineering colleges and the set process, DU will also admit students through the Joint Entrance Examination Main (JEE).
