Indian Institute of Technology-Madras (IIT-M) and Anna University sign signed a wide-ranging agreement with Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) to introduce courses in the telecommunication sector and provide network coverage in the institutions. V. Kamakoti, IIT Madras, director, on behalf of the institute, and R. Velraj, Vice-Chancellor of Anna University, signed the agreements.

The company has decided to give priority to startups from IIT-M Pravartak, granting them access to its expansive infrastructure and network solutions to foster their business development.

BSNL also plans to set up laboratories at Anna University's Chennai, Coimbatore, Tiruchi, Madurai, and Nagercoil campuses for conducting short-term training courses. The telecom giant aims to extend this facility to approximately 450 colleges, encompassing constituent colleges affiliated with Anna University.

About Telecom Course

The institute is set to introduce a one-year international diploma course in telecom technology and management. IIT Madras will partner with BSNL to design and deliver this course, targeting students and young professionals in the field of telecommunications both in India and internationally. This program aims to equip participants with advanced telecom technology and management skills, enhancing the employability of youth, as stated by BSNL officials.

Along with this, short-term courses will be introduced to narrow the industry-academia gap. The agreement offers flexibility to introduce customized courses that adapt to the changing requirements of students, young professionals, and the dynamic telecom industry, ensuring ongoing advantages for all involved parties.
