IIT Madras student hangs himself to death
The deceased has been identified as Srivan Sunny, a resident of Maharashtra. He was a second-year research student in the electrical engineering department at IIT Madras.
A student of Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself at a hostel of the institute. The police have registered a case and are currently investigating into the matter.
Depression behind suicide?
The deceased has been identified as Srivan Sunny, a resident of Maharashtra. He was a second-year research student in the electrical engineering department at IIT Madras. It is said that the student had taken the extreme step due to depression. Many students have died by suicide across various IITs. The recent case is of an 18-year-old student at IIT Bombay who allegedly committed suicide by jumping off the seventh floor of his hostel building on the campus.
The police said Darshan Solanki, a resident of Ahmedabad, was pursuing BTech from IIT Bombay. He student had enrolled for the course just three months ago and his first semester exams concluded on Saturday. A police team reached the spot immediately after the incident. The student was taken to a hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
