IIT, NIT, IIIT & CFTI Admission Eligibility Criteria Revised

According to the official website of MHRD(Ministry of Human Resource Development), the Admission Eligibility Criteria for IITs, NITs, IIITs & CFTIs have been revised, particularly for SC and ST students.

The website states, “ For the candidates to qualify for admission in the IITs/NITs/ IIITs and such other CFTIs whose admissions are based on the JEE ranks, they should have secured at least 75% marks in the 12^th class exam, or be in the top 20 percentile in the 12^th class exam conducted by the respective boards. For SC/ST students the qualifying marks would be 65% in the 12^th class exam”. Earlier SC/ST students had to secure 70% for admissions.

Shiksha recently reported that the Central Seat Allocation Board (CSAB) had received a recommendation from the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) to make certain changes in the eligibility criteria for admission to NITs(National Institutes of Technology).

With the proposed changes, general category aspirants securing below 75 % in the Class 12th board examinations will be ineligible to secure admission in the leading technical institutes, irrespective of their JEE Mains scores. However, SC(Scheduled Castes) and ST(Scheduled Tribes) candidates, there would be some relaxation, with the cut-off for eligibility being 65 %.

Also, from the academic year 2017, normalized score of class 12th marks will not be considered to determine JEE Main All India Ranks. This is contrary to last year where JEE Main 2016 ranks were calculated on the basis of JEE Main scores and normalized marks of Class XII in the ratio 60:40.
