The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Roorkee has expressed deep sorrow over the untimely demise of a second-year B.Tech student, Anshu Malaiya, from the Department of Data Science and Artificial Intelligence. The institute issued a statement confirming the tragic incident and assured full cooperation with the ongoing police investigation.

"IIT Roorkee announces with profound sorrow the passing of Ms. Anshu Malaiya, a resident of Kasturba Bhawan. The institute is deeply saddened by this tragic incident. Anshu was a talented and promising student, and her untimely demise is an irreplaceable loss to the IIT Roorkee community," the official statement read.

The institute has conveyed its condolences to Anshu's family and extended all necessary support to them. It has also offered counseling assistance to her peers and friends during this difficult time.

Meanwhile, the police are investigating the matter. Preliminary reports suggest that the student died by suicide, but the exact cause is yet to be officially confirmed. Anshu’s body was found in her hostel room on Tuesday evening. According to police sources, a friend who had come to visit her alerted authorities after receiving no response and noticing the situation through the window. The police have recovered her mobile phone and other belongings, and a forensic team has examined the scene.

The investigation is ongoing, and authorities are looking into possible reasons behind the incident. IIT Roorkee has assured full cooperation in ascertaining the facts surrounding the case.

The institute and the broader academic community mourn the loss of a young and promising student. "Our thoughts and prayers are with her loved ones. May her soul rest in peace," the institute stated.
