In an official statement, the institute expressed profound grief and extended heartfelt condolences to Hanuman’s family and friends

The IIT Roorkee community is reeling from the tragic and untimely demise of Hanuman Galwa, a 19-year-old BS-MS student from Rajasthan. His body was discovered in his hostel room at Jawahar Bhawan under suspicious circumstances.

In an official statement, the institute expressed profound grief and extended heartfelt condolences to Hanuman’s family and friends, emphasizing its commitment to cooperating fully with the ongoing police investigation.

According to reports, Hanuman was last seen on campus around 2 a.m. on Wednesday before retreating to his room. When friends were unable to reach him via phone later, they alerted the hostel authorities, who subsequently informed the police.

Upon arrival, the police broke the door to find Hanuman’s body hanging from the ceiling fan. While the absence of a suicide note has raised questions, initial findings suggest the possibility of suicide.

Investigation Underway

Civil Lines Kotwali police are conducting a thorough investigation, reviewing Hanuman’s recent activities, academic records, and personal interactions. Preliminary inquiries revealed he had been struggling with academic pressures, including low marks and attendance, which may have contributed to his distress.

The police are awaiting the postmortem report to confirm the cause of death and are gathering additional information from friends and associates.

The institute has pledged unwavering support to Hanuman’s family during this time of grief. "Our thoughts and prayers are with Hanuman’s loved ones, and we will offer every possible assistance to his family," the media statement read.

This tragic incident has cast a somber mood over the IIT Roorkee campus, with students and faculty expressing shock and sorrow over the loss of a promising young life.
