JEE Main 2023: PIL on 75% eligibility criteria postponed

JEE Main Eligibility Plea:The Bombay High Court will hear a public interest litigation (PIL) challenging the eligibility criteria of 75 per cent and top 20 percentile for the Joint Entrance Exam (JEE) Main 2023 on May 2. The National Testing Agency (NTA) today submitted during hearing that they need more time as they are collecting the data from various boards about top 20 percentile and the ASG will submit the affidavit. Advocate General Advocate Anubha Shrivastava Sahai appearing on behalf of the Government tweeted, “Update of #JEE matter at Mumbai HC Govt requested for some more time till 2nd May as they are collecting some data . Hon'ble Judge told them to come on Thursday as we can't delay further but as ASG is not available so time granted till 2nd May.”
Ealier on April 13, the Advocate General appearing on behalf of the Government mentioned before the Bombay High Court Chief Justice that they will be filing an affidavit related to the JEE Main 75 per cent criteria and need more time for the same. The PIL stated, “The marks scored by them is not a true reflection of their actual ability therefore those students with less marks than the eligibility criteria (75%) for this year’s examinations can score very high marks in the upcoming JEE Main 2023, and if a fair chance is denied to them that will affect the future (of) lakhs of bright (students).”
According to the JEE Main 2023 information brochure released by the NTA, apart from the All-India rank of the candidate in the national entrance test for engineering admissions, the aspirants are required to score 75 per cent and above in Class 12 or figured among the top 20 percentile candidates of the respective board in order to become eligible for admission. For Scheduled Caste/Scheduled Tribe candidates, the qualifying aggregate score was declared 65 per cent and above.
