JEE Main 2024 Result 2024: The National Testing Agency (NTA) has released a notification clarifying on various issues that were raised by candidates after the declaration of JEE Main session 1 result. NTA has stated in the notice that it has evenly distributed the number of candidates appearing in the JEE Main 2024 session 1 in terms of gender category in the multiple shifts.
NTA has also released the data on JEE Main 2024 shift-wise allotted number of candidates after several candidates who appeared for the exam between January 24 and February 1 alleged errors in percentile calculation and uneven distribution of candidates within shifts after the declaration of JEE Main 2024 results.
The clarification is released in response to numerous candidates voicing their concerns on social media about alleged discrepancies in the results. The primary allegations against the NTA by various candidates stated that the majority of them had been assigned to appear on the first two dates of the exam: January 27 and 29, 2024.
NTA Clarification Regarding JEE Main 2024 Result and Normalisation Process
NTA states, "The session was conducted in 10 shifts which is 02 shifts less than the previous year despite the number of registered candidates going up to 1221624 as compared to the previous year's count of 860064 i.e. an increase of 27%."
It further states, "As per the norms followed by NTA, various Question papers of a similar nature in content were prepared and randomly selected for each shift without knowledge of the difficulty level of each Question paper."
JEE Main 2024 Shift-wise Distribution of Candidates
A total of 11,70,036 appeared in JEE Main paper 1 in the Jan session. Candidates can check the data on the number of candidates allotted in each JEE Main 2024 session 1 shift. The NTA data, however, does not have the details of the candidates who did not appear in each shift.
JEE Main 2024 Normalisation Process
As per the norms followed by NTA, various question papers of a similar nature in content were prepared and randomly selected for each shift without knowledge of the difficulty level of each the question paper.
NTA further added: “The varied difficulty level in question papers is an inherent part and parcel of multi-shift examination and thus normalization is the preferred mode for deciding scores. There is no equivalence between raw scores and normalized scores.”
NTA reiterated that it ensures that all candidates appearing in a shift are administered the same question paper with jumbled questions and options. In this sense, they are being tested on a level playing field. It is a common practice that, in such a case, a candidate who scores, say, 75 marks will always be ranked higher than any other candidate with lower marks, say 70.
JEE Main 2024 Result: Check Percentile of Candidates Appeared in Different Shifts
The NTA has also released the percentile of candidates appearing in various JEE Main shifts between January 27 and February 1, 2024.
Many candidates complained that the January 27 shift 1 was difficult and it was unfair for them to be allotted this shift, the NTA data states that most number of 100 percentile holders, as many as eight, are from the January 27 shift 1.
JEE Main Percentile Score
The JEE Main percentile score indicates how many candidates got a score equal to or less than that percentile in the exam. This means the top scorer (highest score) in each shift will receive a percentile of 100, which is expected. Scores ranging from the highest to the lowest are turned into percentiles using a specific formula.
