As per the relaxation announced by JNTUH, now a student will need nine out of 37 credits to be promoted to second-year first semester. He/she will need 19 out of 79 credits for promotion from the second year to the third year.

Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University Hyderabad (JNTUH) released a notification reducing the cut-off percentage of their credit-based detention policy. The notification came after a group of students protested to withdraw the policy for the current academic year.

The notification read, “In the current scenario of the consequential effect of the pandemic, the university decided to relax credits for promotion to the next year of BTech/ BPharm courses, i.e. the students have to secure minimum of 25 per cent of total credits.”

JNTUH’s credit-based detention policy requires students to repeat a year if they fail to acquire a specified minimum number of credits in a subject. The varsity had discontinued the policy in 2019 in view of the COVID-19 pandemic. The credit-based detention will be implemented for the academic year 2021-2022 (i.e for promoting students to the academic year 2022-23) as per the existing academic regulations.

As per academic regulations for BTech R18, JNTU Hyderabad students must secure at least 18 out of 37 credits to get promoted to second-year first semester. They must secure at least 47 out of 79 credits for promotion to their third-year first semester and in order to be promoted to the final-year first semester, students must secure 73 out of 123 credits.

30 creidts for promotion to final year

As per the relaxation announced by JNTUH, now a student will need nine out of 37 credits to be promoted to second-year first semester. He/she will need 19 out of 79 credits for promotion from the second year to the third year. A total of 30 credits are needed out of 123 for promotion to the final year.
