KCET Court Judgement 2022: CET repeaters filed a petition in the Karnataka High Court on August 2, 2022, for the taking into consideration of 50 per cent of QE marks for CET rankings. The final judgement has been pronounced by the high court on this, which provides relief for KCET repeaters of 2022.
What is the judgement of the Karnataka High Court?
The Karnataka High Court on Saturday (September 3, 2022) directed the Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA) to redo the rankings by taking II Pre-University (PU) marks and CET-2022 marks in the ratio of 50:50, even for the students who passed II PU in 2021.

Who delivered the verdict?
The Hon. Justice S.R. Krishna delivered the verdict while allowing a batch of petitions filed by Eshwar R. and 52 other students who had passed the II PU in 2021 and reappeared for CET-2022. The judgement announced in simple terms is that now repeater students will get 50% weightage for PUC marks and 50% weightage for KCET marks, just the same way how KCET 2022 fresh students are treated.
The Karnataka High Court has also directed the KEA to redo the CET rankings for admission to undergraduate courses in Engineering and Technology for the academic year 2022–23 in accordance with Rules 3 and 4 of the Karnataka Selection of Candidates for Admission to Government Seats in Professional Educational Institutions. It is said that as per the latest decision of the court, the entire ranks of fresh students might also undergo changes and fresh ranks will be declared.
As per news agencies, the government of Karnataka is going to challenge the Karnataka HC order on the CET 2022 rank list.

When CET repeaters filed the petition?
The CET repeaters had filed the petition on August 2 in the Karnataka High Court seeking justice regarding the consideration of 50% of QE marks for CET rankings. On July 30, the Karnataka Examination Authority issued an order stating that only 100 per cent of CET marks will be considered for CET candidates of 2021 who appeared in 2022. In 2021, the CET evaluation was based solely on CET scores of 100 percent, as opposed to the norm of 50% QE or PUC/class 12 marks and 50% CET score.
After the government promoted all of the students on II PUC to COVID-19 without conducting the examination and evaluating based on SSLC, first PU, and internal assessment, the decision was made to consider only a 100 percent score. July 30 order was quashed by the Justice Krishna Kumar who was hearing the case.
A total of 2,10,829 candidates took the CET in 2022. Around 25,000 CET candidates from 2021 repeated the CET in 2022 in order to improve their rankings this year. Some students have dropped out in order to prepare for NEET 2022 and have planned for CET as a backup option.
