MAKAUT shifts to online mode to combat COVID-19 disruptions
The Maulana Abul Kalam Azad University of Technology has adopted an AI-based virtual classroom platform to teach students, while they are at there home during this lockdown.
In wake of the closure of university until April 15 due to coronavirus outbreak, the Maulana Abul Kalam Azad University of Technology (MAKAUT) has started teaching its students through online classes to avoid any academic loss.
To provide the best of education to our students we are making use of the Artificial Intelligence (AI) platform, Learning Management System and video conferencing technique for the virtual classes. We have developed an AI-based platform, to assess the performance of the students regularly, said Saikat Maitra, Vice-Chancellor, MAKAUT.
We have given a time-table for the virtual classrooms to all the students. With this cloud-based system, the teachers are able to take classes from their respective residences. This is not new, the virtual classroom system has been there at MAKAUT for quite some time and the basic infrastructure was already set. On average, a student is able to attend three classes of 45 minutes each daily. We have also strengthened the infrastructure and we wish there will be no problem for the students to use this platform, for their studies during this forced lockdown at home, a senior official at the university said.
In the last few months, the university was working on setting up virtual classroom facilities, so that, in any emergency situation there is not much difficulty faced in the switch over process. We have been conducting online internal tests till now, but, we are looking forward to developing facilities to take semester exams online too, said Maitra.
The training to teachers and students about the AI-based virtual classroom has already been given by the university.
