A team of five students and one faculty mentor were felicitated for their work on ‘Power Train Design of Electric Vehicle’.

A team of students from the Department of Automobile Engineering, FET, Manav Rachna International Institute of Research and Studies, secured the second position in the EV Skill Development Programme competition.

The five-member team comprising Nikhil Singh, Gaurang Tomar, Aayush Sadija, Shubham Thakur, Gaurav Saxena with faculty advisor Devendra Vashist were felicitated for their innovative work on ‘Powertrain Design of Electric Vehicle’, in a ceremony that took place at the International Centre for Automotive Technology (ICAT) Centre 2, IMT Manesar, Gurugram, Haryana.

The award was conferred upon by Mahendra Nath Pandey, Union Minister for Heavy Industries; Krishan Pal Gurjar, MoS Heavy Industries; Kamran Rizvi, Secretary, Ministry of Heavy Industries; Hanif Qureshi (Auto), Joint Secretary, MHI; Saurabh Dalela, Director ICAT, and Sunjay Kapoor, President Automotive Component Manufacturers Association of India (ACMA).

More than 1,700 Indian auto companies were present during the ceremony. The event was organised by Mathworks (Makers of MATLAB and Simulink) in association with ICAT through their Aspire Programme. A total of 350 participants from 76 teams, including students from IITs and NITs, participated in the event.

To prepare for the competition, the teams underwent a skill-based training of four months from October 2022 to January 2023 on MATLAB and Simulink wherein each member of the team completed three basic courses.

For the competition, the Manav Rachna team was given a live project for providing the best solution on EV drive train. The team developed a simulation model of a 1470 kg weight four-wheeler by using NEDC (1180 sec), FTP75 (2474 sec) and WLTP class 3 (1800 sec) drive cycle source. The results were compared with graphs based on peak power SoC and other related parameters for identifying the effects.
