MoE Reconstitutes JoSAA; IITs-JAB and NITs-CSAB Signs MoU for Common BTech Counselling

The Ministry of Education (MoE) has issued a notification regarding the reconstitution of the Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA). The competent authority has decided to re-establish JoSAA 2025 to oversee the joint/common counselling process for the academic year 2025-2026. The common counselling will be also joined by the CSAB (NITs). To facilitate this process, the Central Seat Allocation Board (CSAB) for NITs and the Joint Admission Board (JAB) for IITs enter into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). By bringing together the expertise of CSAB and JAB, the joint counselling process is expected to be more cohesive and coordinated.

The JoSAA 2025 has been reconstituted with the following members:

  • Professor Manindra Agarwal, Director of IIT Kanpur, as the co-chairman and convener of the Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) 2025.
  • Professor K. Umamaheshwar Rao, Director of NIT Rourkela, as the co-chairman of JoSAA 2025.
  • Professor V. Kamakoti, Director of IIT Madras and the chairman of the Joint Admission Board (IITs) - 2024, as a member of JoSAA 2025.
  • Professor B. Ravi, Director of NITK Surathkal and chairman of the Central Seat Allocation Board-2024, as a member of JoSAA 2025.
  • Professor Amit Mishra, Professor at IIT Kanpur and chairman of the Joint Implementation Committee (IITs) 2025, as a member of the JoSAA 2025.

JoSAA conducts the annual common counselling called the JoSAA counselling, for seat allocation to undergraduate programs at Centrally Funded Technical Institutions (IITs, NITs, IIITs, SPAs, and other GFTIs). Admissions to these institutions are based on the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE). To examine the differences in the counselling process flow between the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) and the National Institutes of Technology (NITs), a Technical Committee was formed under the chairmanship of the then Director of IIT Kharagpur. The committee recommended implementing a joint seat allocation process (JoSAA) starting from the academic year 2015-2016. Following these recommendations and with the approval of the Councils of IITs and NITSER, the Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) has been overseeing the joint seat allocation process since the 2015-2016 academic year.
