The National Institute of Technology Calicut, in collaboration with CITRA (Centre for Information Technology, Research and Automation) and CCESD (Centre for Continuing Education and Skill Development), conducted a short-term training programme (STTP) focusing on Network and Security for Kerala Police. This initiative is a part of a recent Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between NITC and Kerala Police Cyberdome aimed at enhancing cyber security efforts.

The STTP plays a crucial role in this agreement. Anuj Paliwal, IPS, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Kozhikode City, initiated the sessions, while Prof. Prasad Krishna, Director of NIT Calicut, oversaw the program. Twenty police officers and scientific officers from various police districts in Kerala are currently participating in this two-week training program.

The MoU promotes a partnership between NITC and Kerala Police for necessary staff training and research activities to boost cybercrime investigations. The focus of the collaboration is to enhance the efficiency of cybercrime investigations and extend comprehensive support to the public.

Data is now very precious, but dealing with the voluminous data is a difficult challenge as crime is all over the globe, said Prof. Prasad Krishna, Director of NITC. Widespread use of the internet exposes this data to different people including criminals, he added.

The expert faculty and technical team from NITC are offering training to Kerala Police as part of ensuring cybersecurity training programs and the development of crime investigative techniques. The availability of technical experts and cyber professionals in digital information technology fields is being utilized for the training programme.
