PEC students to don traditional attire not robes at convocation

The date for the convocation, which will be held after a two-year gap, is yet to be finalised.

The senate of Punjab Engineering College (PEC) has approved a proposal to replace the conventional convocation robes with the traditional Indian attire at the upcoming annual convocation. Now, the traditional Indian attire will be the official dress code for all students, faculty and dignitaries at the convocation.  

The new dress code

PEC Director Baldev Setia said everyone in the senate accepted the proposed dress code. The date for the convocation, which will be held after a two-year gap, is yet to be finalised.  As per the new dress code, the male faculty will wear cream kurta pyjamas with maroon Nehru jacket and sash (maroon turban for Sikhs), whereas the female faculty will wear cream kurta salwar or saree. 

The dress code for boys students includes off-white or white kurta-churidar pyjamas and for girls it will be off-white or white kurta-churidaror saree. Besides, the students will have to wear sashes (both girls and boys), a turban of the same colour as sash for Sikh students. PhD students will don red sashes with contrasting logos, while the MTech and BTech will be seen in green and orange sashes, respectively.  

The dress code for the dignitaries will be maroon-coloured Nehru jacket and beige sashes with embroidered centenary logo on one side and the logo of the college on the other.  

The proposal will now be sent to the PEC’s board of governors (BoG) for final aprroval. As many as 668 BTech degrees, 168 MTech degrees and a total of 32 PhD degrees will be awarded to the students at the convocation.
