President launches 20 engg books in Odia language

The books have been translated into Odia for BTech first year and diploma engineering courses.

President of India Droupadi Murmu have launched 20 engineering books that have been translated into Odia for BTech and diploma engineering courses at Jaydev Bhawan in Bhubaneswar today (November 11, 2022).

Besides, she also launched glossary of technical terms developed by the Commission for Scientific and Technical Terminology (CSTT) in Odia language. The translated books are available on portal called e-KUMBH. Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, Governor Ganeshi Lal and Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan were present on the occasion.  

Govt will go all out to remove barriers to education: Murmu 

Addressing the audience, Murmu said the intellectual development of a child educated in mother tongue is more than others. The government will try its best to remove barriers to education, ensuring that no one is deprived of the basic right to education. She said education in mother tongue has been emphasised in the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. The government is giving importance to the development of talent at the grassroots level.  

The technical education department had signed an agreement with the Institute of Odia Studies and Research to translate the books for the first-year students (nine for degree and 11 for diploma) in Odia language for the 2022-23 academic year. The translation work began in November 2021. AS many as 64 language experts, translators and reviewers translated the first-year engineering books into Odia. Odia is the third Indian language in which the engineering course material has been translated after Hindi and Tamil.
