After receiving an approval from the government, the Biju Patnaik University of Technology (BPUT) at Rourkela, Odisha, has started the process for introduction of BTech and five-year integrated dual degree (BTech and MTech) courses from the 2022-23 academic year, a report published in The New Indian Express said.

The university had on September 9 published a notice for admission into four-year BTech and five-year integrated (BTech and MTech) dual degree courses at its headquarters under the aegis of Centre for Advanced Post Graduade Studies (CAPGS).

BPUT Vice-Chancellor CR Tripathy said the Odisha Joint Entrance Examination (OJEE) authority has been informed and interested candidates may seek admission to the new courses through OJEE counselling as per government rules. The counselling process is likely to be completed by October-end. There will be a total of 200 seats in five disciplines of integrated MTech progarmmes, while BTech programmes will be offered in 10 disciplines, each having 30 seats.

Though CAPGS is already running five post-graduate MTech programmes in electrical, electronics and telecommunication, civil, mechanical and computer science, the response to the courses has not been good. On the fate of existing MTech courses, the Vice Chancellor said the government has not yet communicated on the matter.

The BPUT campus has hostels to accommodate 400 students. The required funds have been deposited with the works department for setting up another 600-seat hostel for boys on the campus.
