Prof Rajat Gupta takes charge as NIT Silchar Director
Prof Rajat Gupta took the charge from Prof Shivaji Bandyopadhyay who joined as the Director of the institute in December 2017.
Prof Rajat Gupta has been appointed as the Director of National Institute of Technology (NIT) Silchar. He took the charge from Prof Shivaji Bandyopadhyay who joined as the Director of the institute in December 2017.
Prof Gupta had earlier served as the Director of NIT Srinagar and NIT Mizoram. A national scholarship holder and a PhD in engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi, Prof Gupta served at NIT Silchar in various capacities such as Director Incharge, Dean (R&C), Dean (SW), Head of the Department, Mechanical Engineering and Chief Warden.
He has received many awards such as Education Leadership Awards, Rajiv Gandhi Education Excellence Awards etc. He has published more than 160 research papers in various national/international journals/conferences and also written five chapters in books. He has produced seven PhD scholars. His research areas include fluid mechanics, CFD, non-conventional energy, thermo-fluids, studies on low speed wind turbine, etc.
(NIT) Silchar was started as a Regional Engineering College (REC) in 1967. The College started its academic programme with affiliation from Guwahati University. In 2002, it was included in the list of NITs under the National Institute of Technology Act 2007 and was also declared as an Institute of National Importance.
The institute has been ranked 38 by NIRF 2022 in Engineering category. NIT Silchar offers undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in engineering, science, humanities and 13 other departments. The courses include BTech, MTech, MSc, MBA, etc.
